  • The REAL high school pics of the 'American Pie Reunion' stars

Once there was a time when the words “This one time, at band camp…” didn’t strike fear into the hearts of flautists everywhere.

This was, of course, before “American Pie.”

In 1999, director brothers Paul and Chris Weitz decided unleashed their blockbuster comedy “American Pie” and the story of four teenage boys who make a pact to lose their virginity by prom night soon became the “Porky’s” of a new generation.

Now, they’re back with “American Reunion,” where Jim, Michelle, Stifler and the gang have returned for a new assault against warm baked goods and our sense of well-being. And thanks to our friends at Snakkle.com, we can see what the “American Pie” cast really looked like in high school, and find out what they’re up to today.

Alyson Hannigan, Senior Yearbook Photo, 1992

This one time, in high school, Alyson Hannigan looked the fresh-faced senior at North Hollywood High School in 1992, well before playing high schooler “Willow” in the iconic show “Buffy the Vampire Slayer.” A veteran child actress, Hannigan had also appeared on shows like “Picket Fences” (1992), “Roseanne” (1988), and “Touched by an Angel” (1994) before landing the Buffy role in 1997.

Alyson Hannigan as teenager Michelle Flaherty in “American Pie,” 1999

Hannigan has appeared as the sweet-but-raunchy band dork Michelle Flaherty in all four “American Pie” movies. Now firmly established in her success as Lily Aldrin on the hit TV show “How I Met Your Mother,” Hannigan is married to actor Alexis Denisof and is currently expecting their second child. She is excited to return as Michelle in “American Reunion” telling the pres sin 2011: “The great thing about this franchise is that, of course, there’s the raunchy humor, but there’s also a lot of heart to it. And this fourth movie does not miss the boat on that at all.”

Chris Klein, Senior Yearbook Photo, 1997

Actor Chris Klein’s story of discovery sounds like the tale of the 1940s starlet found at the soda shop: the high school football star was appearing in school plays when director Alexander Payne plucked him out of Omaha, Nebraska, to star in 1999’s dark comedy “Election.” Here he is in his senior yearbook photo at Millard West High School in Omaha before his journey to Hollywood.

Chris Klein plays Chris “Oz” Ostreicher in “American Pie” in 1999

Klein went on to star as sensitive lacrosse player Chris “Oz” Ostreicher in two of the three “American Pie” sequels: “American Pie 2” and now in “American Reunion.” Klein, who famously dated Katie Holmes (pre-Tom Cruise), was arrested twice for drunk driving in 2005 and 2010. Did this lead to Klein missing out on the third follow-up, “American Wedding”? Regarding the casting decision, he told the press: “I wish that they had invited me to play Oz at the wedding. Unfortunately, that was a creative decision made way above my pay grade.” Klein, who is now 19 months sober, will next appear in the film “Sam.”

Tara Reid, Freshman Yearbook Photo, 1991

Tara Reid was another child actor (like Alyson Hannigan), appearing in dozens of television commercials. She moved to Los Angeles in 1997 and landed her first big role as Bunny Lebowski in “The Big Lebowski” (1998). Success in “American Pie” soon followed. Here is Tara her first year of high school at the Professional Children’s School in New York City.

Tara Reid as sweet Vicky in “American Pie” in 1999

Reid may have played virginal Vicky in the original “American Pie,” but she quickly became better known for her tabloid antics in the time since. She went on to appear in films like “Dr. T and the Women” (2000) and “Josie and the Pussycats” (2001). But she hasn’t had a major film release since 2005, instead she’s done pictorials for “Playboy” and appeared in “Celebrity Big Brother U.K.” in 2011. Maybe Reid’s planning a comeback with the new hit “American Reunion”? If so, she may be smarter than everyone thinks.
