America wants more teen pregnancies–at least on their televisions.

Following the success of MTV’s “Teen Mom,” “16 and Pregnant” and last year’s Lifetime movie “Pregnancy Pact,” Lifetime has just greenlighted another original movie based on the issue of teen pregnancy, “The Pregnancy Project.”

The movie, which stars “Spy Kids’” Alexa Vega, is based on the true story of Washington state high school student Gaby Rodriguez. The 17-year-old pretended to be pregnant, as reports, “in an effort to explore conventional stereotypes and the treatment of pregnant teens for a senior year school project.”

For six months, Rodriguez told family and friends that she was pregnant.

When the straight-A student finally revealed that it all had been an elaborate hoax, people were stunned.

“Everybody was just shocked, like speechless,” Rodriguez told ABC News.

Even weirder? Rodriguez got permission from her principal Trevor Greene to pursue the project, which she entitled, “Stereotypes, Rumors and Statistics.”

“I admire her so much. Her courage, her creativity, her strength. She’s gone through so much…alienating some of her friends along the way or being alienated from her friends,” Greene said.

Originally, Rodriguez planned on sharing her report with community leaders “to help other young women fight stereotypes.”

Now, Rodriguez has a check from Lifetime and a movie credit.
