  • William Shatner disses 'Star Wars,' says 'Star Trek' is better: Who wins the intergalactic debate?

William Shatner is getting the geek world stirred up again.

The iconic “Star Trek” actor is taking George Lucas’ “Star Wars” to task, dismissing the film franchise as a “derivative” of his show.

The seemingly tongue-in-cheek interview was posted on the actor’s YouTube page last week.

“‘Star Trek’ had relationships and conflict among the relationships and stories that involved humanity and philosophical questions,” he said in the video interview. “‘Star Wars’ was special effects, was ILM at its best.”

“God knows what those actors looked like in reality with all those special effects,” he said of the “Star Wars” cast. “There’s no telling what ILM did for those faces and hairdos. They may have walked around with nothing on.”

He also took on Carrie Fisher’s performance in the films.

“Princess Leia, as beautiful as she was and as wonderful an actress as she is can’t compare to the marvelous heroines we had on ‘Star Trek’. I’m not saying that the pretty girls [we had], and they were prettier than the girls on ‘Star Wars’, absolutely, I’m not saying that that’s just the only thing that ‘Star Trek’ is better than ‘Star Wars,’ I’m saying the stories were better.”

In light of Shatner’s answer to the decades-long debate, which do you think is better, ‘Star Trek’ or ‘Star Wars’?
