Divorced TV dad Jon Gosselin is “very relieved” that “Kate Plus 8,” the TLC show featuring his eight children and ex-wife, Kate Gosselin, was cancelled Monday.

“I hope they can have more private family moments,” Gosselin explained to RadarOnline.com. “I hope that this will bring more privacy to my children and that they can get the proper attention they need for any personal issues they might have in the future.”

“Kate Plus 8,” formerly known as “Jon & Kate Plus 8,” launched in April 2007 to blockbuster ratings for TLC. The show featured the exploits of the young family, including a set of twins and a pair of sextuplets. The Gosselins’ marriage soon crumbled, and the pair announced their separation in June 2009, followed by a messy divorce.

Calling the shows’ 150 episodes “an exceptional milestone,” TLC will air the final episode of “Kate Plus 8” on Sept. 12. The network plans to air occasional specials with updates on the family.

Gosselin was philosophical about the end of the series’ run, “Contracts have to end at some point. I think everything had run its course and it was time to come to an end anyways.”

Before the show’s cancellation, Gosselin had fought to keep his children away from the cameras.

In Oct. 2010, Gosselin asked a judge to end the filming of “Kate Plus 8,” saying that the long hours on the set and resulting publicity from the show was causing “emotional and/or behavioral issues” for his children and that they were “desperately in need of a normal life.”

“My goal for my children is for them to have a normal childhood, and gain back their much deserved privacy. This is not about money, this is about my children,” the Hollywood Reporter quoted Gosselin as saying on Twitter. “I will not stop fighting to remove my children from television. It is not a child’s job to support themselves, or a lifestyle, they need to be kids. I will have to answer to my children for the rest of my life. I will have to live with this guilt the rest of my life. I am truly sorry!”

The Gosselins share custody of their eight children, but Jon Gosselin is unsure of his his ex-wife’s future plans. “I have no clue what her next move is,” he told RadarOnline.com. “I hope she dedicates more time to the kids now and I wish her the best as she goes forward with whatever career she wants to pursue.”
