  • Britney Spears' new video is heavy on apocalyptic theory, sweaty dancers

Britney Spears premiered her new video for “Till the World Ends” Wednesday, which features the pop singer partying the night away at a makeshift underground club while the apocalypse goes on above them.

The video takes place on Decemeber 21, 2012, the day the ancient Mayans and modern-day conspiracy theorists predict the world will end.

But Spears and her sweaty pals, wearing torn leather and skimpy clothing don’t seem to care. The “Mad Max” themed party keeps going all night as the skies appear to be going dark and roads and buildings crumble around them.

Ultimately, Spears opens a manhole to climb above ground to see that the sun is coming out and the world hasn’t actually ended.

The video, directed by Ray Kay (who has worked with Beyonce, Lady Gaga and Enrique Iglesias), is heavy on choreography and is more like the classic Spears of her heyday. The look of the video is similar to her hit “I’m a Slave 4 U.” Spears also dons a red catsuit at the end of the video, which some have said is an ode to her famous catsuit from her hit “Oops!… I Did It Again.”

Spears has been criticized for her recent performances for being stiff on stage and failing to live up to her reputation as a strong dancer. But the video, choreographed by Brian Friedman features Spears appearing to return to be on the way back to her old style.

What do you think of the video?
