  • Miley Cyrus receives 'inspiration' award, urges kids not to 'do what their parents want'

Miley Cyrus’ week had a rough start with her dad waxing poetic on the perils of “Hannah Montana,” but now it looks like she may have put her own foot in her mouth as well.

Two months after a video leaked of Cyrus allegedly smoking salvia, a legal, LSD-like substance, her estranged father, Billy Ray Cyrus, announced to the world that he’d like a do-over on the whole “Hannah Montana” thing.

“It destroyed my family,” the downtrodden dad told GQ. “I’ll tell you right now–the damn show destroyed my family. I’d take it back in a second. For my family to be here and just be everybody OK, safe and sound and happy and normal, would have been fantastic.”

But the former Disney darling’s week looked like it would end on a high note when fellow former Disney tween queen, Hilary Duff, presented her with an “inspiration” award for Global Action Youth Leadership at a gala in Beverly Hills on Friday.

“I want (kids) to do something they love,” Cyrus urged during her acceptance speech at the first annual Global Action Awards. “Not something that seems like a chore because someone tells them that’s the right thing to do, or what their parents want, or what’s important to people around them, but what’s on their heart.”

Wait, is she talking about doing homework? Doing the dishes? Mowing the lawn?

Cyrus received the Global Action Youth Leadership Award for her worthy work with Blessings in a Backpack, which helps feed hungry children, and the Get Ur Good On campaign, which connects youth to volunteering opportunities with Youth Service America.

“I got to tell you I never thought I’d get an award from Hilary Duff,” smiled Cyrus while accepting her award. “That’s like a dream come true for me. She inspired me, and now I’m here being able to inspire other kids.”
