Troubled actress Lindsay Lohan’s trip to rehab just days before she is scheduled to go to jail is an attempt to keep her from doing any hard time, sources tell Fox411.com.

Lohan’s new representation, famed O.J. Simpson attorney Robert Shapiro, has big plans to help “save” Lindsay and keep her from serving the 90 day jail sentence, set to begin July 20.

“Lindsay is desperate to stay out of jail and Robert Shapiro came to her with a plan,” a source close to Lohan told Fox411. “He wants to help her and he was willing to try to get her into rehab immediately if she was willing.”

Lohan’s team is set to speak with Superior Court Judge Marsha Revel, who presides over the case, next week in the hopes she will reconsider the sentencing. Sources tell Fox411 that Lohan will likely admit that she has some problems and prove her commitment to her health and her safety.

“Lindsay has been advised by her new legal team to focus on a healthy lifestyle while she is at Pickford Lofts,” the source said. “They’d like her to work on herself and stay as far out of the public eye as possible. Lindsay needs to prove she is serious about living sober.”

As so, the team is advising her to limit her interactions to loved ones only in an attempt to show that she is willing to put in the work to change.

One person who couldn’t be happier with Lohan’s decision is ex-girlfriend Samantha Ronson.

“”Sam visited Lindsay last night and wants to support her as a friend,” a Lohan insider tells Fox411. “More than any other person in her life, Sam truly cares about Lindsay. They went through so much together but Sam had to get out before the drama and the fighting took over her entire life. Now that Lindsay is making an effort, Sam is willing to support her.”
