  • Meet the new Freddy Krueger

    Karen Berg |

Cue scary music – Freddy Krueger is back!

“A Nightmare on Elm Street” has seen countless sequels and spinoffs since it first came out in the mid-80’s. But unlike some of the “comedic” versions of the horror flick, the new one out today claims to be as scary, if not more frightening than the original.

The iconic scarred-faced villain, Freddy Krueger is played by soft-spoken Jackie Earle Haley. And he admits on Fox & Friends, that although the eerie killer’s deep voice is his own, “They put some tweaks on it with the computer,” he says.

The actor acknowledges, ““Nightmare on Elm Street” got very campy and comedic over the years since its origins in 1985.”

“We kind of went back to the origins when it was scarier and a little bit more serious,” he explains.

To play the striped shirt killer, the “Human Target” star studied serial killers, but it didn’t really help. “What it revealed to me was that I was playing a mythological Boogie Man,” he says. “I really learned early on that I’m not playing a serial killer. This guy is a mythological Boogie Man.”

“He’s like the main character in a campfire story and that’s what I embraced,” says Haley. “It was really freeing.”

Fans of the original cult classic will get a taste of the gruesome flick they loved while younger fans will get to embrace Freddy for the first time. “We’re re-introducing this camp fire story to a new generation,” says Haley.

On his YouTube page, Aaron Melcher, the 24-year-old soldier who is the brainchild behind the video, describes it as ” a couple guys located in Afghanistan, that re-made the music video by Lady Gaga.”

The men are from the 82nd Airborne Division and reportedly filmed the video at the Forward Operating Base in Farah Province, the Smoking Gun reports.

“Prepare yourself for a fantastical journey,” he said. ”Right now this is the temporary version, we have more scenes to cut, and edit, however with guys always on mission it is harder to film than you think.”

  • Conan O'Brien: I wouldn't do what Jay Leno did

    FOX 411 | Editor

In his first interview since leaving NBC, Conan O’Brien says he never would have done what “Tonight Show” host Jay Leno did to him by forcing him out of his late-night spot.

In an interview with “60 Minutes,” which airs Sunday May 2, O’Brien tells Steve Kroft that if he were Jay Leno, he would have left NBC rather than reclaim his old role.

“He went and took that show back and I think in a similar situation, if the roles had been reversed, I know – I know me, I wouldn’t have done that,” O’Brien said in quotes released by CBS. “If I had surrendered ‘The Tonight Show’ and handed it over to somebody publicly and wished them well – and then … six months later. But that’s me, you know. Everyone’s got their own, you know, way of doing things.”

  • IDOL 411: 'American Idol' says so long to Siobhan

    IDOL 411 |

    (AP)

Guess Siobhan Magnus’ boss is finally going to shave his beard.

“American Idol” said so long to Siobhan on Wednesday night, the quirky glass blower with the big voice whose boss once said that he would not shave until she won the contest.

Were we surprised by Wednesday’s results? Yes and no. As far as we can recall, Siobhan has never been in the bottom three, while Aaron, Mike and Casey all have. So it was sort of sudden. Plus, the judges liked her performance more than usual on Tuesday night, even if Simon accused of her of screaming like she was “giving birth.”

  • Molly Ringwald pens new book

    Karen Berg |

These days, it’s rare to see a child star turn into an adult actor. But 80’s favorite, Molly Ringwald has done just that, starring on the ABC Family show “The Secret Life of the American Teenager.”

“I have a really great family and they were always there for me,” says the actress who appeared on “Diff’rent Strokes” when she was just 11. “They were very nurturing and there was a lot of communication which I think is incredibly important.”

But it’s also her strong personality and life goals that kept her on the right track.

“I just have a really strong survival instinct,” she tells Fox News. “And I knew that I wanted to do too much in my life to get side-tracked by all that.”

  • Donald Trump pulling for Bret Michaels, wonders if Tony Awards injury caused brain hemorrhage

    Karen Berg |

Along with many fans, “Celebrity Apprentice” host Donald Trump just wants Bret Michaels to get well soon.

“The whole thing is unbelievable,” Trump told Fox & Friends while addressing Michaels’ shocking brain hemorrhage last week. “He was in such good shape, or at least seemingly so and this is what happens.”

“The Donald” has his own view of what could have caused the hemorrhage. “He did the Tony Awards [last year] where he got whacked; he got hit really, really hard. That was a year ago so that sounds like a long time,” explained Trump. “But with brains… Something like that could cause it, but no one really knows what caused it.”

Michaels was hit by a piece of scenery that broke is nose during the 2009 Tony Awards.

Michaels was rushed to an undisclosed hospital last week after suffering from excruciating headaches. “I hear very rarely do people get to the hospital, let alone survive [a hemorrhage],” said Trump. “So he’s going through a lot. He’s a great guy and we hope he makes it.”
