  • Regina King dishes on why she became a cheerleader for a week

Regina King stars in the new romantic comedy “Our Family Wedding”, out this Friday. In the film, she plays Forest Whitaker’s friend who tries to help him get through his son’s unexpected wedding to a girl (America Fererra) he doesn’t exactly approve of. She explains to “Fox & Friends” that it’s about “two kids in love but their families don’t particularly approve of the other family.”

Regina, who has guest-starred on male dominated shows like “Southland” and “24”, is currently embracing her more feminine side by volunteering to coach High School Cheerleaders, the Pasadena Panthers.

“My son plays football for the team and the girls didn’t have any coaches and they wanted to cheer,” she tells Fox & Friends. “So I raised my hand. And then I realized, wow, this is a lot of work.”

Although the 39-year-old cheered for her on-screen husband Cuba Gooding, Jr. in “Jerry Maguire”, that’s about all the cheering experience she’s had.  “I was not a cheerleader in High School,” she says. “I was a cheerleader for about a week in Junior High, ‘cause I wanted to take the photo.”

Apparently she’s good at coaching though since her team came in Fourth place at Nationals this year. Go Regina!
