“Hills” star Heidi Montag’s mother was horrified to learn that her daughter elected to have ten plastic surgery procedures in one day as part of  a drastic, secret makeover, according to a report from People magazine.

Nine weeks after Montag’s surgery, sources tell People that mother Darlene Egelhoff is “horrified and having a total breakdown” over the news. “She can’t wait to confront Heidi when she goes home.”

Montag reportedly kept the procedures a secret from her family and friends and is now terrified to face her mother.

“I still can’t believe I’m 23 and mom is reacting this way,” she said. “I’m nervous to go home and face her – especially with cameras rolling.”

But Fox News mental health expert Dr. Keith Ablow, who does not treat Montag, says her mother can’t exactly play innocent, as issues like her daughter’s likely began at home.

“I don’t know Heidi Montag’s family, but I’ll tell you this. I’ve done my work for 17 years talking to families and patients and when somebody becomes addicted to anything in order to prop up her self esteem and make herself feel like a person, there’s trouble at home,” Ablow told Fox. “That’s the bottom line. Why wasn’t she able to process what it meant to be osctracized by classmates? Why did she have to go to this extreme?”

Ablow said Montag’s issues undoubtedly run deep and that she could even be in danger of falling victim to other addictions.

By Montag thinking her D-cup breasts are too small, Ablow argues that she is really saying “I feel small. I’m not sure who I am … She’s really suffering. That’s also the breeding ground for heroin, for alcohol and every other addiction. [It] takes root at that interface between what we wish our lives might have been and the pain we suffered.”

Fans will get to watch the potential drama unfold on the next season of the “Hills,” as cameras will catch every moment.
