Nicole Richie admitted herself to Cedars Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles Wednesday with a serious case of pneumonia.
The diminutive star has been sick for over a week, and friends tell Fox411 that they are worried, but relieved that Nicole is finally getting proper treatment.
One friend told Fox411 that Richie, who had her second child, Sparrow, on September 9, began feeling achy as early as November 9.
"Nicole began feeling sick, and has pretty much been in bed. She didn't want to make a big deal out of it, but she was exhausted and couldn't take care of Harlow and Sparrow the way she normally does," the pal told Fox411. "Nicole spent most days in bed, and the kids were brought in to her, since she was feeling so icky."
Meanwhile, Nicole's partner and baby daddy, Joel Madden, was working overseas with his brother, Benji.
"Joel was out of the town the entire first week she was sick and he didn't realize how serious it was. Friends were calling and stopping by to check in on her while Joel was away," the source said. "When he got back he was worried and realized she didn't have [just] a little flu bug."
So how did Richie get into such a state?
"Nicole has been working very hard since giving birth to Sparrow in September. She really is a stay-at-home mom with the kids all day long and then she goes to work on her House of Harlow line," said the insider. "She puts the kids to bed and then has a little quiet time to herself around 9pm. All the work and nonstop going out has been a lot for her right after giving birth."
So far it looks like her trip to the hospital is doing the trick, her friend says.
"She's doing better and getting great care," the friend says. "It's time for a speedy recovery."
Maybe Nicole should stop going out and "working" so hard whatever that means in her world. Any stay at home Mom that reads that story will have zero sympathy for someone that has a nanny, wait NANNIES to come in and save the day. I'm sure she takes care of her kids at least an hour or 2 a day. Poor thing
OMG- some of you people are heartless. I just got over the swine flu which caused me to go to the er due to pneumonia. It is in fact VERY serious. Nicole must have an underlying medical problem. The pneumonia caused by the flu is killing people and they have made the news. Have some heart people!
Nicole has grown up alot since being on the show with Paris. And she seem's to take care of her children alot better than most. Give her a break, Get Well Nicole!!!!
I love how people have kids then complain about how tired they are or how they never have any time to themselves. What did you expect? STFU; nobody cares!
I am not all about bashing the rich, I'm just glad she is getting healthy for her children. This is about the kids not the nannys or the help, at least she stays home with her kids whether or not she has a nanny. she is a better mom than most and she can provide for her kids and then some, I would if I could. Lets stop being so hateful because she has money to do things we can't.
I think Nicole is a very 'special' lady, she appears to have a heart of gold. I wonder if all of you in here were exposed to who you really are behind your computer if you'd still say the things you say, its just amazing how mean and cruel the postings are here. If you can't say anything nice about someone then say nothing! Get Well soon Nicole!
My prayers are for your complete recovery and for a work/life balance appropriate for your calling. My prayers are also for your family. I suffer with a cronic medical condition and I know my wife and children litterally suffer more then I do from my unexpected hospital visits.
