“Weeds” star Mary Louise Parker says becoming a mother changed her life for the better, despite the challenges of working and raising two children alone.

At the Worldwide Orphans Foundation Fifth Annual Benefit Gala in New York City Tuesday, Fox411 caught up with Parker where she opened up about motherhood to reporters.

Parker, who has 2 children, William,5,  and daughter Caroline, 3, who was adopted from Ethiopia in August of 2007, says she always knew she wanted to adopt.

“I did, yeah,” she told reporters about her desire. “I think some people [want to adopt], they’re just drawn to it. I felt like, if I don’t do it now, I’ll regret it the rest of my life. And I might do it again!”

Parker encouraged others mulling over the idea of adoption to definitely “do it.”

“There’s no downside to it … There’s nothing bad about it, only good. This is going to sound strange, but even if you’re a mediocre parent, you’re going to give them way more than they have now. You’re going to give them attention and food and clothes,” Parker said.

Having kids has not only taught the “Weeds” star to have patience, but also that she doesn’t “know anything. They really put you in touch with how little you know.”
