In the past week, Jon Gosselin has returned the thousands of dollars he secretly snuck out of his and wife Kate Gosselin's bank account, and he has reunited with Kate's brother and sister-in-law.
Could Jon be turning over a new leaf and trying to right some past wrongs?
It turns out Jon Gosselin is on a major press offensive that's planned to continue for weeks to come, in which he will try paint soon-to-be-ex Kate as a bad mom, and himself as a hapless victim, Fox411 has learned.
But for all the behind-the-scenes machinations taking place, it turns out the main player is not even the main man behind the PR strategy, says a source inside the Jon and Kate Gosselin drama.
The insider tells Fox 411 that Jon is simply doing whatever his "team" recommends. Jon's backers include girlfriend Hailey Glassman (daughter of Kate's plastic surgeon), his publicist, lawyers and even Lindsay Lohan's dad, Michael Lohan. They have convinced Jon that the best strategy going forward is to continue to make Kate look like the controlling woman he thinks she is by constantly calling the paparazzi and speaking to the cameras, says the source.
"His first [priority] was to get the money back to their marital account so he could prove that he was just protecting the assets of his kids," the insider tells Fox411. "Now that he has forced filming to stop, and TLC is suing him for breach of contract, he's building up witnesses to back him."
"Michael Lohan was key in convincing Jon to shut down the show, and now Jon's money-making potential is limited," the source continues. "The people he should be paying, including lawyers, are pretty sure the likelihood of him being able to pay them is low at this point."
The group even discussed the weekend reconciliation with Jon and Kate's brother and sister-in-law, Kevin and Jodi Kreider. The couple used to be close to the reality parents, but their relationship ended two years ago over a dispute with Kate, says the insider.
"Kevin and Jodi genuinely seem to love the kids, but it was not Jon's idea to bring them to the big house this weekend without Kate there. [It was] the team's," the source explains. "Once he thought about it, he knew the kids would love it and it would irritate Kate. Jon gave them a call and invitation to get them on his side."
Kate's take? Just another family betrayal she has to deal with.
"After her brother and his wife went on air to talk about what a bad mother she was and how hurtful the show was for the children, Kate was upset," the insider says. "She wasn't surprised that Jon would befriend them again, but she was furious when she learned he invited them to the house. She can't stop Jon from doing these things to hurt her [though], so she's learning to let them go."
For those who are appealing to him to see how is being manipulated, he is too dumb to see that.
As for Kate excluding some members of her family, we cannot judge her because we do not know what down between her and them. If I felt them too judgemental, I would cut them out too from frequent contact. Being biological related is not grounds for perpetuating toxic relations.
And Jon, wimp that he is has to coopt others to fight his dirty wars. No respect for that apology for a man.
I was and still am a fan of the show. I have always admired Kate and the way she handled her family. To some it might have seem harsh, but the realty is someone needs to be in charge and as we are all seeing she was the only qualified. Jon had the chance in the beginning to set things right. This was not a live show, if he didn't like the way he was portrayed, edit it!! Grow up Jon, you fathered these kids and now you have to take care of them. Find a job and stop all the talk shows!!
i totally agree with jay. kate is not supporting 8 kids alone,nor is she with them 24/7. to kate its all about money. i dont think that she ever loved jon, if she had, she would never had treated,or talked to him the way that she did. he couldnt even be with his family. kate hates her family, she is just PLAIN MEAN.
Jon needs to get a life and come back to the real world. Don't think his kids are going to support his $5000 a month apartment. The kids made the show not him. He is going to end up a sad bald old man before his time
If I was a mother of 8 and had the opportunity to stay home with my kids, not lift a finger, and give my kids the world at the same time. I would take that rout. I don't think she is a bad mother. I just think that the dirty laundry shouldn't of had been aired for everyone to see. Some things you keep behind closed doors. This brake up is ugly. Is it hurting the kids. Yes. Father is out of control. Kate is doing a great job handling herself. I just hope she doesn't lose it in the end.
the only reason that she shunned her family is because they started making demands for a certain number of appearances and money to be "on the show" and when Kate told them no, because the money would have been budgeted out of the children's money, they threw a fit. FYI
For someone who claims to abhor the spotlight for himself and his kids, Jon Gosselin keeps himself in front of all of us quite well. What a piece of trash - no apparent regard for his kids, just his wallet.

OH who cares anymore....really divorce is bad as it is....Sorry Kate is money hungry...ohhh boo hooo cannot feed my kids. Single parents in the real world actually go through things like this....they have to work 3 - 4 jobs just to make ends meet...and they are not travelling or taking the children to different places. I am not saying what he does is great...they both need to grow up and maybe someone should take the kids away until they can do that. None of this can be good for them.
