Katharine McPhee is back and ready to take on the music scene with a new sound and a sassy new haircut.
The “American Idol” alum gave an exclusive interview to PopEater, where she discussed the changes to her look and her sound.
For her new album “Unbroken” (set for release in January), McPhee says she went into discovery mode in an attempt to find herself as an artist.
“Coming off of the show that I did and making the record as fast as I did, I always just sang. I didn’t develop myself as an artist and know who I was and where I wanted to do.”
But fans are buzzing less about her sound and more about her new look after she chopped off her signature long brown locks in favor of a shorter, edgier blond cut.
“It was a natural thing to do,” she told PopEater. “I always wanted to know what it was like to have blond hair. People get complacent and know you as the girl with the long curly brown hair … I just wanted to turn things upside down. I felt like seeing what it was like to be blond with short hair and doing something people wouldn’t expect.”
Still McPhee says she hasn’t seen more attention from the opposite sex, although she says it’s probably because only “true blondes” get it.
Edgy?? Pffff, whatever - more like soccer-mom sensible. She was smokin’ hot before, now she's just average. And it's not nearly as much the color as it is the length - she should have kept it long.
She was hot as a brunette. Now she's cute but no standout. I was just talking the other day how attractive she is. That was before the makeover. Bring back the long dark hair.
oh Katherine...you will be sooo sorry you gave up that gorgeous thick dark hair...now you look just like a zillion other starlett/singers..thus you look "common". yikes.
I would love to see some opinions on here from men. Do most of you actually prefer blondes over brunettes? I think that women look more attractive as brunettes. Natural blondes are almost non-existent, so 99% of the blondes that you see are fake. Do men prefer natural brunettes over dyed blondes or do you prefer the dyed blondes over natural brunettes? Just curious...
Though there is nothing Katherine McPhee could do to make herself un-beautiful, I do prefer her as a brunette! She is certainly one of the most beautiful women out there today whether she is blonde or brunette,

She had such beautiful enviable hair. Now she just looks like a million other girls. What a horrible decision.
