Kelly Clarkson looks great on the September cover of SELF magazine. But there's something ... different ... about her.
Above is the cover shot. Next to it, Kelly is seen performing on "Good Morning America" on July 31.
Now some fans are wondering whether or not the singing sensation was a little too Photoshopped on the cover in an attempt to appear slimmer than her frame. The move seems a tad questionable, as Kelly says she is confident with herself just the way she is in the interview.
Read on to see more of what Kelly had to say and what SELF editors think about the claim...
The magazine's "total body confidence" issue features an interview with the original "American Idol" discussing her thoughts on her weight.
She told the mag, "My happy weight changes. Sometimes I eat more; sometimes I play more. I'll be different sizes all the time."
Clarkson says she is fine with her weight and has never had an issue with it.
"When people talk about my weight, I'm like, 'You seem to have a problem with it; I don't ... I'm fine! I've never felt uncomfortable on the red carpet or anything."
SELF Editor-in-Chief Lucy Danziger said they did indeed do "post-production" on Kelly's cover, but no more than they do for any other star.
"SELF magazine inspires and informs our 6 million readers each month to reach their all around best. Kelly Clarkson exudes confidence, and is a great role model for women of all sizes and stages of their life. She works out and is strong and healthy, and our picture shows her confidence and beauty. She literally glows from within. That is the feeling we'd all want to have. We love this cover and we love Kelly Clarkson"
Kelly looks amazing either way. And as long as she's happy with the way she is, then it shouldn't matter to any of us. There's so much pressure to be this perfect barbie-doll image and constantly worry about the way we look. It's wrong and I respect Kelly even more for her comments.
She's putting on fat and it's not healthy, nor is it a good example for this nation of obese people. Let's stop accepting what is both unhealthy and unappealing, and start doing something about it. Fat is Fat. It should not be acceptable.
SELF should be ashamed of itself. If they really respected Kelly and their readers who aren't "the perfect shape", they would have put the real Kelly on their cover. Even when you do post production, you don't go to that extreme.
Sad representation of our society. no wonder so many girls are anorexic.
While I agree with most of Lynn's previous comment, I want to clarify that Marilyn Monroe did not actually wear a present-day 14/16. Her dress size varied from 14 to 16 by vintage sizing...it would be considered sizes 8 and 10 by modern sizing.
The issue here is NOT Kelly's weight! The issue is this front Self magazine portrays. They do not care about fitness, but conforming everyone to the barbie doll persona. Kelly's weight has never been obese. She has had a healthy weight.
The fact that she agreed to this editing makes her seem to have a low self image, and to be embarrassed by her look. She says she loves her curves, and ppl love that about her. Now, ppl are livid with Self, and ashamed for Kelly! This is not loving yourself.
Well if they do this with all their star's photos I don't think I want to spend money on something so fake. I've always known they retouched photos to a degree but this is rediculous. This is not a reflection on Kelly Clarkson, its a reflection on the magazine trying to make a buck by any means, even lying. That photo is nothing more than a lie and I don't think I'll trust them anymore to give me any kind of information.
I am very happy that Kelly doesn't have an issue with her weight, confidence is awesome and sexy. However, I wish she could set a better example for "real" women everywhere. You can all claim that your "curves" don't make you unhealthy, but you're just lying to yourselves. By overeating, you are trying to compensate for something missing in your life. So stop making excuses and start taking better care of yourself. No one else will.
